A 16-year-old girl named Maria Antonieta Cutillo has passed away after dropping her mobile phone in the bathtub while it was charging. Cutillo was having a conversation with her friend on the phone while taking a bath, and the device slipped from her hand and fell into the bathwater, causing a short circuit. The call ended abruptly, and the teenager’s friend grew concerned and contacted emergency services, reporting that she had heard Cutillo scream her name before the call cut off.
Upon arriving on the scene, first responders found the victim lifeless in the bathtub, apparently having suffered a fatal electric shock. The phone was reportedly still in the victim’s hand, which had turned black and charred after the incident. The tragic accident occurred at the victim’s parent’s home in Montefalcione, a town located 40 miles east of Naples, Italy.
The victim’s parents were not present at the time of the accident. Italian media reports that the victim’s father is a well-known businessman in the region of Irpinia. Cutillo’s friend Fabi expressed her grief on social media, saying, “You flew to Heaven, my love. You left screaming my name during a video call. I have your voice echoing in my head as you screamed my name. I will never ever forget that scene.”
Cutillo’s body was taken to the morgue at the San Giuseppe Moscati National Hospital in Avellino for an autopsy. The investigation into the teenager’s death is ongoing.
