A man in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, made a daring move to retrieve his iPhone 12 Pro Max after he accidentally dropped it into a sewage ditch while relieving himself after a hip-hop festival. Augusto Figueiredo, 30, offered other festival-goers cash to retrieve his £895 phone, but when no one took up his offer, he decided to jump in himself.
Despite the rancid water, Augusto managed to locate his phone, which was still in working condition, but his heroic actions landed him in the hospital. He fell ill and required medical attention, including a tetanus shot and stitches in his foot.
Augusto admits that he never imagined his actions would gain so much attention, saying, “There were a lot of people there at the time, some were filming, but I never imagined it would have all these repercussions. I just wanted to get my mobile phone back.”
Although his phone was recovered, Augusto’s family still does not know about the ordeal he went through to retrieve it. While Augusto admits that it was a crazy decision, he maintains that it was worth it to recover his phone.
This story highlights the lengths that people will go to for their prized possessions, even when faced with extreme circumstances. While Augusto’s actions may have seemed extreme, they ultimately led to the recovery of his valuable phone.
