A famous and unusually tall duck, known as Long Boi, has gone missing, leaving many students at the University of York concerned. Long Boi, a cross between a mallard and an Indian runner, is an enormous bird, standing at 2ft 2ins (70cm) tall. Long Boi had been a regular presence on campus for four years, where he became a social media sensation with over 57,000 followers on Instagram. He even caught the attention of James Corden’s US chat show and BBC Radio 1.
The bird has not been seen since mid-March, and despite the University keeping an eye out for Long Boi, there are fears that he may have passed away. The bird’s age is unknown, and this is the longest he has ever been absent from the campus. Long Boi’s Instagram account spokesperson said that his absence is not like him since he would usually be found in his favourite spot by the lake on campus West.
Tributes have poured in for the beloved duck, and concerned students have suggested a Long Boi statue or a memorial. A spokesperson for Long Boi’s Instagram account requested information from anyone who might have seen him or knows his last known location, to help piece together what may have happened. Long Boi brought joy to many students during his time on campus, and if he has passed away, they would like to create a memorial in his memory.
